During a media briefing at the MEPCO ,Federal Minister for Power Awais Leghari emphasised the importance of introducing prepaid meters for electricity consumers.
Leghari highlighted that the company aims to improve customer services through the implementation of new boards. He assured that even regular citizens will receive prompt assistance when they contact the company.
Leghari mentioned that DISCOs (Distribution Companies) will have the power to retain or dismiss employees as necessary, stressing that performance and results are essential. He also pointed out that electricity companies must strictly follow the relief measures set by the Punjab government, with no tolerance for any mistakes, even as small as a single unit.
The minister stated that electricity theft is unacceptable both for the government and the public. This year, there is a focused effort to reduce the losses caused by theft, with a goal to completely eliminate the 15.6% electricity theft rate in the MEPCO region.

Leghari further stated that companies will be given full authority to combat electricity theft.
Additionally, he mentioned that the Punjab government has allocated Rs.45 billion in relief for consumers using between 200 and 500 units of electricity.
